Rays optioned RHP Jeremy Hellickson to Triple-A Durham.
True to their word, Hellickson was up for just one night. The 23-year-old right-hander was mighty impressive in his major league debut, allowing two runs over seven innings in a 4-2 win over the Twins. Fear not, however, as this isn't the last we have seen of him this season.

Rays placed RHP Andy Sonnanstine on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 23, with a left hamstring strain.
Sonnanstine hasn't pitched since July 18 due to the hamstring injury. His disabling clears the way for the promotion of top pitching prospect Jeremy Hellickson, who is making a spot start on Monday vs. the Twins.

Rays purchased the contract of 1B Dan Johnson from Triple-A Durham.
It's too bad to see Jeremy Hellickson go so quickly, but Johnson is always a welcome sight for Rays fans. After spending last year in Japan, the 30-year-old slugger was batting .303/.430/.624 with 30 homers, 95 RBI and a 1.053 OPS with Triple-A Durham. He'll provide some further backup for Carlos Pena, who is dealing with an injury to his right foot.
