As expected, Schlichting will take the place of the injured Chad Billingsley on the 25-man roster. The 25-year-old right-hander earned his first ML victory with four scoreless innings of relief in an extra-inning with over the Diamondbacks earlier this month. He has a 4.29 ERA and 1.40 WHIP over 19 relief appearances with Triple-A Albuquerque this season.

Vargas was released by the Brewers earlier this month after posting a 7.32 ERA over 19 2/3 innings. The 31-year-old right-hander had a 1.64 ERA over eight relief appearances with the Dodgers last season. He's scheduled to start for Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday.

Demel was acquired from the A's on Tuesday for outfielder Conor Jackson and is expected to bring some amount of consistency to the D'Backs' scuffling bullpen. He had a 1.26 ERA and six saves this season for the A's Triple-A affiliate and will operate in middle relief for Arizona.
